Liberty Park

Gloria Franklin Gipson

12/01/93

I remember many years ago driving through the area
thinking What a Waste
Now I visit the park daily
It is a beautiful place

I love the trees and greenery
Its a pleasure to walk through
At times I stand over the water
For me its a perfect thing to do

So many years planning and money
Has gone into this park
I spend so much time there
I love it from my heart

So many times I want the park only for myself
When it's crowded, I just leave
Then it dawned on me consider someone else

So many people love the park
We all may feel the same way
If time and circumstances would permit
I would stop by Liberty Park everyday!

Liberty Park

By Gloria Franklin Gipson

Today is a very special affair

A celebration that touches the heart

Thirty years ago a vision put into action

And today we have a beautiful park

We honor the trail blazers and devoted people

Working endlessly behind the scene

Attending meetings, volunteering, faithful advocates

And now we see wonderful acres of green

A park for everyone to enjoy

A park that has an impact on the world today

It’s been worth the efforts and struggles

And many of the pioneers have passed away

To every friend and well wisher

Your labor of love is appreciated each day

For every good deed in life

Rainbows of blessings are coming your way

As we travel down memory lane

We say thank you for caring

There is still more work to do

The ultimate goal is sharing!

Happy Birthday

Love,

Gloria Franklin Gipson

Liberty Park

Poem by Gloria Franklin Gipson

on the Occasion of the Second Recognition Luncheon of

The Friends of Liberty State Park

May 6, 2007

This celebration is certainly in order

Because of the challenges we have to face.

We must strive to keep Morris Pesin’s Dream Alive

Liberty Park for All People, such a beautiful place.

The history has made its mark

And the Friends still struggle.

When issues come up, the fight is right,

Devoted people don’t run from trouble.

People come from all over the world

To enjoy the blue sky, fresh air and greenery.

If we allow something to block the view

We are interfering with the scenery.

Everyone was affected by 9/11

Our lives will never be the same for a time

A monument can be in the park

We have worked to change some minds.

We enjoy our Park daily

But there are people that work

Behind the scenes.

There must be special care

To keep the park free and green.

This luncheon should be an annual affair

To keep people informed.

The Friends of Liberty State Park are

Sending the message.

We are determined to go on!

Liberty Park

by Gloria Franklin Gipson

05/08

This afternoon we have gathered together
For a very unique celebration
We are focusing on Liberty Park
And the years of loyal faithful dedication.

This is the third Annual Recognition Luncheon
We are celebrating the 20th birthday of the Friends of the Park.
People that work endlessly behind the scene
Always ready and willing to do their part.

We are going down Memory Lane
Remembering Morris Pesin’s Canoe trip 6/13/58.
Proven not to be in vain; 6/14/76 the park opened.
More successful than words can explain.

So many issues, struggles,
and challenges,
Threats brought to our attention,
Many of the Friends deserve honorable mention.

We also have special awards
For people that go above
and beyond.
Proving their loyalty as they continue on.

We give Sam Pesin thanks
For continuing his father’s dream.
With officers Michel Cuillerier and Eliza Wright
And many on the Friends’ team.
For Liberty Park, we “fight the good fight”.

On the occasion of the Friends of LSP’s Fourth Recognition Luncheon May 3, 2009

This afternoon we are celebrating life

And our affair is focusing on Liberty Park.

We are honoring special people doing public service

And working endlessly from the heart.

Liberty Park, a safe haven.

A place to inhale

And exhale

Blue sky, yellow sun

Birds flying

Waves moving

People walking and talking

Peaceful relaxing and mind-soothing.

We had a rock festival and a jazz one too.

Our free summer concerts

On Tuesdays and Sundays

Are wonderful.

In this park there is so much to do.

Volunteers planting early in the morning

To enhance the park’s beauty.

No matter what day you go to the park

Dedicated workers are on duty.

We still have some challenges

And some more battles to win today.

But in spite of opposition

The Friends are here to stay.

we hold on  tight.

On the occasion of the Friends of LSP’s Fifth Recognition Luncheon on May 2, 2010

We welcome all of you to our fifth annual Recognition Luncheon.

Celebrating people that have devoted their

Time and efforts to the park.

People working behind the scenes

And doing what they do from their heart.

It is March 2010

I’m driving through Liberty Park

The trees are trying to turn green.

People are slowly walking

Enjoying quiet and peace

And becoming serene.

No noise or traffic jams.

No fighting or shooting.

No chaos or looting.

Just calm, a safe haven.

No horns tooting.

The economy is in crisis.

People must learn

To relax and not stress.

Liberty Park is a perfect place

To come to clear your mind.

Meditate and rest.

Some people are walking their dogs.

The sounds of birds tweeting.

The water moving.

People passing by with a smile and a greeting.

No entrance fee

With an awesome Lady Liberty view.

Every day with a variety of things to do.

Fresh air, water, trees, birds flying, greenery, scenery.

Blue sky, sun so bright.

You are welcome day or night.

For the future we’ll continue to fight

Because we believe in what is right

We will follow the faithful path

With the human chain.

A Tribute to Liberty State Park

By Gloria Franklin Gipson

For Friends of LSP Luncheon, May, 2011

The snow is falling and it looks like winter wonderland.

Sky blue, trees covered in white.

People playing and walking,

It feels alright.

Lady Liberty with a clear view.

Even in the winter

There are things to do.

The geese walking, sounds like

they are singing.

The water still and the

Peaceful atmosphere lingering.

Passed by the Nature Interpretive Center

Open all year

Liberty Park, enjoying without fear.

Let’s always remember the faithful members

Who passed away.

They are thought about day by day.

Morris Pesin will always be

In our heart.

The one responsible for Liberty Park.

His vision and yearning proved to be a success

Mainly because of hard work and doing his best.

People with cameras taking pictures

And relaxed,

For many reasons, after one visit,

You’ll always come back.

Try standing near the water. Close your eyes.

Inhale, exhale. Take a second to see how you feel.

Let go of what ails you and try to change your view.

Because having this experience is meant for me and you.

Park staff always ready

To listen and observe.

Devoted to the park

To assist and to serve.

Stay focused and keep going

Reaching heights and goals

Steadfast, unmovable

The Friends are still growing.
