Dear Friends of Liberty State Park,

Greetings! We hope that you are all well and ready to enjoy our urban waterfront oasis after the winter. Your support and generosity and that of a few Walk sponsors last year, plus the work of volunteers in the Friends Saturday Volunteer Garden Program led to the planting of 60,000 bulbs and many plants and shrubs. Over $10,000 worth of trees will be planted in early Spring near the large playground and picnic area near Freedom Way.

Our Spring Meeting will take place on Sat. April 14 at 10 am on the Terminal’s 2nd floor. Our annual volunteer Salt Marsh Clean Up will be on Sat. May 12 from 9 am to Noon.

Please Save these Dates for Events to Benefit Liberty State Park          and help the Friends continue to beautify, improve, and protect LSP.                   Sat. April 21 WALK and Sunday May 6  Luncheon.

Sat. April 21 - Earth Day - This year's WALK for LSP will be a collaboration with the Hudson County Improvement Authority's (HCIA) 5K RUN and its annual Earth Day Festival. The WALK and 5K RUN starts at 10 AM. Please see the enclosed registration flyer and indicate your Shirt size. Participants getting "pledges" are welcomed.

The WALK proceeds will go to FOLSP and the 5K RUN proceeds will go to the Hudson County Green Fund. Since people from the same family may want to walk or run, and to simplify the event’s collaboration, FOLSP and HCIA decided that all checks for walkers and runners will be written to “Hudson County Green Fund”. Our members can be assured that the Friends will get all proceeds from the Walk registrations. Please enter Friends Walk in your check’s Memo section. Registration is $17 before and $20 on 21st. If you want a shirt mailed for your Walk fee, please indicate that on your registration. The Earth Day Festival from 11 am to 4 pm has many interesting exhibits, plus environmental activities, giveaways and entertainment.

Sunday May 6  Luncheon   Noon to 3 pm   Please join fellow park lovers at our 2nd annual Awards Luncheon at Liberty House Restaurant on Zapp Drive. $50 per person.

The deserving honorees include Assemblyman Louis Manzo, a leader against the commercial waterpark plan and in the cause to save LSP's views and Public Plaza from the hill and walls 9/11 Memorial; LSP's longtime wildlife photographer Marvin Silber; Gladys Vasques, dedicated pioneer volunteer of LSP's garden beautification; and LSP's Liberty Yacht Club Commodore Jim O'Connor, who initiated major marina area clean up/beautification and other LSP projects.

A formal invitation will go out in April but it’d be great if you decide sooner. Please contribute $50 per person to Friends of LSP and send to above address ( write "Luncheon" for “memo”).
Thanks for your important support of LSP in so many ways over the years.
